How did we start?
We started with a large irregular shaped plot situated in the corner of our school grounds. The western boundary was formed by a mature Hawthorn hedge which shields the school from the footpath at the other side. The southern boundary was immature hedging mixed with post and wire, this overlooks a lane frequently used by the village. The north and west boundaries were initially unfenced.
The pond was dug out seven years ago. It was originally stocked with a good variety of plants. Water shortages and vandalism are a problem. We still have plenty of simple water life and some interesting pond weed.
Two wooded sections were planted up in 1988 to provide an alternative natural habitat for us to study.
In the spring of 1991 a small patch was cleared and sown with meadow seeds. We call this area the Glade. It is full of wild flower's in the summer.
This is a plan of the Wild Area.
